Amp Building Class - Tweed Deluxe Combo 9th November 2019

Come and join Michael for a day of soldering together your own handwired Tweed Deluxe style all valve guitar amplifier.

This is one of the most popular amps for DIY builders, this amp delivers lush bluesy tweed tones and when pushed really starts to sing, it is a must have for guitar players who love blues, jazz and rockabilly. Michael from Modulus Amplification will be running the course. He has a diverse background in Design Engineering, having led design teams in the transport industry and O&G industry, he is now following his passion for music and electronic engineering he has own brand of Gryphin amplifiers. His expertise will give you the opportunity to enhance your learning by being competent in building a valve guitar amplifier that you are able to take away on the day.

The course will take place at Modulus Amplification in Kirriemuir from 9am till 5pm on Saturday 9th November 2019.


The following is a course outline of what will be involved on the day.

    Introduction - Safety/ Soldering/ The basics of the circuit
    Turret Board Assembly
    Chassis Wiring - Mains wiring
    Chassis Wiring - Installing the board
    Chassis wiring - Inputs/outputs and pots
    Final Inspection and testing
    A discussion of mods that can be done to tweak the amp.     All tools will be provided for the course.

Cabinet and speaker supply is optional, if you don't buy a cabinet from Modulus you must ensure the amp is housed in a safe manner.

The amp will be built using "boutique" quality parts giving you a final product that is extremely satisfying to play.

You do not need previous soldering or electronics experience,  just the desire to learn and try something new. You will need to arrive well rested and rearing to go!

To ensure the amps are completed on the day some prep work will be carried out on the chassis before hand, such as fastening transformers, sockets and ground lugs.

A light lunch will be provided. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements in advance.
